1. Eligibility and Registration
- Age Requirement: Participants must be at least 18 years old or accompanied by a parent or legal guardian who signs the Waiver of Liability Form on their behalf.
- Registration: All participants must register in advance via our website charlestonsolveit.com Registration includes providing accurate personal information and agreeing to these Terms.
- Waiver Requirement: All participants must sign and submit a Waiver of Liability Form prior to participating. No one will be permitted to join the Event without a signed waiver.
- Refusal of Service: We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone who appears intoxicated, under the influence of drugs, or otherwise unfit to participate safely. Determination of intoxication is at the sole discretion of our staff.
2. Conduct During the Event
- No Alcohol or Drugs: Consumption of alcohol or illegal substances during the event is strictly prohibited. Participants found consuming alcohol or drugs will be immediately disqualified and removed from the Event without refund.
- Compliance with Laws: Participants must obey all applicable federal, state, and local laws, including City of Charleston ordinances governing pedestrian behavior. This includes, but is not limited to, adhering to traffic signals, crosswalk rules, and public property regulations.
- No Running: Running is discouraged due to hazardous uneven sidewalks, cobblestone streets, and other obstacles in Charleston’s historic areas. Participants must maintain a safe pace to avoid injury or damage to property.
- Respect for Property: Participants must respect public and private property, including historical markers, statues, and businesses. Vandalism, trespassing, or disruptive behavior will result in disqualification and potential legal action.
- Team Conduct: Teams should work collaboratively and follow all instructions provided by event staff. Disruptive, unsafe, or unsportsmanlike behavior may lead to disqualification without refund.
3. Safety and Liability
- Assumption of Risk: The event involves walking through outdoor public spaces in Charleston, including uneven sidewalks, cobblestone streets, and areas with pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Participants acknowledge and assume all risks associated with these conditions, including but not limited to slips, falls, collisions, or injuries.
- Waiver of Liability: By signing the Waiver of Liability Form, participants release Charleston Solve it!, its employees, volunteers, sponsors, and affiliates from any liability for injuries, damages, or losses incurred during the event, except in cases of gross negligence or willful misconduct.
- Health and Fitness: Participants confirm they are physically capable of walking approximately 1-2 miles over several hours and have no medical conditions that would prevent safe participation. Consult a physician if unsure.
- Emergency Situations: In case of an emergency, participants must follow instructions from Event staff or local authorities. We are not responsible for medical expenses incurred due to injuries during the event.
4. Event Rules
- Puzzle-Solving: The Event involves solving puzzles, ciphers. Participants should follow the designated route and solve clues as instructed.
- Time Limit: The Event has a 3 hour time limit.
5. Payment and Refunds
- Fees: The Event fee is $35/person, payable at registration. All fees are refundable up until the event begins.
- Cancellations: If we cancel the Event due to unforeseen circumstances (e.g., severe weather, city restrictions), we will offer a full refund or rescheduling up to the start of the race. Once the race starts no refunds will be given unless the CSI! staff cancels the event due to an unsafe condition.
- No-Show Policy: Participants who fail to attend or are refused service (e.g., due to intoxication) will not receive a refund.
6. Intellectual Property
- Puzzles and Materials: All puzzles, clues, and event materials are the intellectual property of [Your Business Name]. Participants may not reproduce, distribute, or share these materials without written permission.
- Photography: We may take photos or videos during the Event for promotional purposes. By participating, you grant us permission to use your likeness in marketing materials without compensation.
